Symbol Chapter Chapitre du Symbole · Civilisation Herbaire

English Version - Written by TongShu

Symbol is the intention of herbs, and the intention of civilization. Root gives foundation, breath gives movement, light gives clarity, symbol gives meaning. Symbol is not in form, not in color, not in name. It rests in intention, in principle, in what the heart perceives. The symbol of herbs is not the shape of the leaf, nor the color of the flower, nor the length of the root. It lies in their nature,
their measure, their resonance with heaven and earth. The symbol of civilization is not the sentence, nor the chapter, nor the title. It lies in the heart, in the way, in its alignment with the future. The way of symbol does not grasp, does not force, does not demand. It reveals, it presents, it allows things to show themselves. When symbol is disturbed, herbs lose their meaning; when the he-art is disturbed, civilization loses its shape; when the way is disturbed, the future loses its order. To keep symbol is to keep the heart; to keep the heart is to keep intention; to keep intention is to keep the way. When symbol remains, herbs become clear; when the heart remains, civilization continues; when the way remains,  the future becomes whole.
